This year the historic Mille Miglia takes place for the 21st time. Between the 22nd and 25th of May, 372 teams with their antique cars will compete on the route between Brescia and Rome.
During the years 1927 to 1932 Ettore Bugatti’s own team participated already in the races of the legendary Mille Migla. But only just once – in 1928 – a Type 43 Bugatti succeeded in taking 6th place – at last; generally, the Mille Miglia has always been quite a disaster for the racing cars from Molsheim!
Having inherited the great name BUGATTI Automobiles S.A.S. will participate again this year in the race through Italy, which since its revival in 1982 is formatted as a historic race, and will in this way continue the long tradition of racing cars built in Molsheim. The antique cars specialists and technicians are just now busy in preparing a Type 35 T car for the Bugatti team. This classic racing car will be sent into the 1.000 miles race together with 22 other Bugatti cars. Traditionally, only vehicles in the categories “sport”, “tourism” and “grand tourism” are admitted to the Mille Miglia, i.e. those that participated in a Mille Miglia already in the years 1927 to 1957. Thus, the route itself will become a mirror of nostalgic racing days long gone by!
This year, Prince Emanuele of Sovoy will be at the wheel of a totally renovated and restored Type 35 T representing the Bugatti team. No small sensation, because never before did a son of the Italian Royal Family actively participate in a Mille Miglia.
In a recent personal interview Dr. Karl-Heinz Neumann, president of BUGATTI Automobiles S.A.S., showed his total confidence in the event. He not only expects a high degree of attention for the Bugatti brand name itself, but also for the race as such, at the occasion of which antique car aficionados from all regions of the world come together in Brescia in the month of May.
