The Italian Bugatti Club, one of the most active clubs worldwide, has, yet again, organised a very special event. Outside the “normal circle” of yearly alternating international rallies, Sicily was chosen for a driving event in October.
On Friday, 8th October, 66 Bugattis with their owners and co-pilots boarded a ferry to Sicily at Civitavecchia harbour near Rome; the participants came from all over Europe, many of them from the United States.A total distance of over 1000 kilometres was covered during the six days of the rally, the first day of which started with a stage of an impressive 270 kilometres.
Some of the roads were of great historic significance for the Bugatti marque. The cars went by many of the famous land marks of the Targa Florio, where Bugattis had won five times in a row between 1926 and 1930. Although the race was not continued after 1973, names like Bonfomello, Corda, Scillato, Collesano, Polizzi, Petralia or Gangi still recall the glorious Bugatti victories of the “thundering twenties”.
Bugatti Automobilies S.A.S. participated with the “works”-Atlantic and offered some media representatives the unique opportunity to live the Bugatti spirit in appropriate surroundings. An enthusiastic article in the Sunday edition of the “FAZ” of 24th September describes this fascinating experience brilliantly.
