This year, Bugatti participated to the ”Silvretta Classic“ again. The rally took place from 7th to 10th July in the Austrian Montafon region. As last year, the 164 participants had the opportunity to cross the alpine region of Bludenz, the forest of Brengenz to finally reach the Arlberg.
On July 7th 2005 at 08:01 precisely, Bernd Ostmann, Editor-in-Chief of auto motor + sport and Julius Kruta, were the first to leave the wooden ramp at Partenen for the race in the Bugatti T35 T of 1926 with the number 1.
Contrary to previous years, the weather conditions were more favourable to the participants, until a short shower on Saturday, which even gave the advantage to the cars’ passengers to remain dry, without having had to put any rain-suit on.
While a light air of altitude could be felt on the alpine roads situated on more than 2000 m high, the before-war Bugatti has been irreproachable. The sensible – and unavoidable – lost of power has however not broken the driving fun. After three days of perfect organisation, the team Ostmann/Kruta has been 43rd in the general classification and 2nd in the category of cars before 1930ies.
